January 2009: InterPhases was awarded $1 million by utility company Xcel Energy to develop a pilot manufacturing line, for their CIS PV technology "that offers potential for extremely low cost and high volume production of thin-film, flexible cell modules." The Xcel Energy Renewable Development Fund removes "barriers to entry of new renewable energy technologies by funding research on emerging technologies and supporting development of renewable energy projects," said Scott Wilensky, Xcel Energy. InterPhases has developed several technologies that synergize to create a novel method for manufacturing the CIS solar cell. The innovation received yet another boost by way of additional funding. The National Science Foundation awarded InterPhases a grant to develop the window material for the cell, using eco-friendly methods. |
